2024 - 2025 Dress Code
THE SCHOOL ADMINISTRATION SHALL HAVE THE RIGHT TO APPRAISE ANY CURRENT FASHION OR FAD AND DETERMINE WHETHER IT IS APPROPRIATE FOR SCHOOL.
PELICAN
ELEMENTARY DRESS CODE
We ask that personal appearance be monitored before the student arrives at school. Should a concern arise over dress code the parent will be contacted to come to the school to correct the concern. Additional clothes will no longer be kept in the clinic for such matters.
The following are the specific standards Pelican Elementary has designed for it’s students:
- Personal appearance should not detract from the educational process.
- Clothing with slogans or advertising which are conversational or obscene are prohibited. Clothing that promotes the use of alcohol, drugs, tobacco or any illegal activities are prohibited.
- Hairstyles such as Mohawks and those, which cause a distraction, are not permitted.
- Closed toe shoes shall be worn at all times. Any shoe worn must be securely
attached to the foot so that it cannot fall off. Sneakers are suggested every day for safety.
Roller skate type sneakers, boots, sandals, flip-flops and Croc type shoes do not meet the current standards.
- Apparel shall be adequate in coverage to promote modesty.
- The appropriate length for shorts, skirts, and dresses is mid-thigh, below the child’s fingertips.
- Pants shall be worn fastened at the waist.
- Altered clothing, i.e., cut-off jeans, pants with holes, tears, rips, etc., and/or ill-fitting garments are not acceptable.
- Over-sized shirts, pants and/or jackets are considered inappropriate.
- Tank tops, tube tops, halters, backless, spaghetti straps and mid-drift are considered inappropriate.
- Please review the School District’s Policy in regard to writing and advertisement on clothing.
- Articles of clothing or jewelry that dangle or hang or that could cause injury are prohibited.
- Spandex type clothing may only be worn in a “layered” look.
- Hair should be of a natural color. All colored hair gel, hairspray, hair extensions, hair glitter and glitter on the body should be utilized off school campus and during off school times.
- Hats should be removed when inside the building.
- Bandanas are prohibited on campus.

E. ATTIRE
- Clear or translucent water bottle preferred! No metal water bottles!
- Tennis shoes closed completely around with socks is the expected footwear for physical education classes.
- Shorts should be worn under dresses.
- Caps, hats and/or sunglasses may be worn for P.E. classes. Sunscreen is highly recommended and should be applied at home.
Please note: When the weather is warm it may be determined by the P.E. teacher that jackets/sweaters not be worn for health and safety concerns.
